ATLANTA (December 20, 2005) – As temperatures start to drop into the 30s, one of Atlanta’s premier esthetician schools, Atlanta Institute of Aesthetics, wanted to take a few moments to discuss the importance of caring for your skin during the harsh winter months. Here are some tips designed to help you confront the problems that await you during the winter months.
Dryer atmosphere and increased time spent in heated spaces causes the skin to dry out and become red and uncomfortable. If you follow these simple tips, you can have healthier looking and more comfortable skin this season. We all know the importance of moisturizing our skin, but how do you select the right product for your skin type? Find a skin care specialist like those at Atlanta Institute of Aesthetics. Our skincare experts recommend and sell products specifically selected for your skin type from quality skincare lines such as Dr. Spiller and Alba. Water intake is also extremely important in keeping skin hydrated – it is recommended that individuals consume half of their body weight in ounces of water. For example, a person weighing 120 lbs should consume 60 ounces of water per day. Supplement your diet with flaxseed and evening primrose oil to help lubricate the skin internally. Put oil on your skin directly after bathing, and lower the temperature of your bath water since steam will dry out your skin. You should also regularly exfoliate your face with a gentle granular exfoliant and your body with a dry skin brush.
Remember this general rule of thumb: Use a heavier moisturizer than normal, continue using SPF and get 10 minutes of sun daily to increase Vitamin D production and improve calcium absorption for healthy bones.
