Healthy from Head to Toe: The Best Strategies for Feeling Good

Healthy_head-to-toe_Feel-Good_040319Healthy habits can be elusive when you have a busy schedule or when you’re living with a disability or mental health issue. It can be difficult to think about making big changes to your lifestyle when you’re having a hard time balancing everything, but those changes can actually do you a world of good. Whether it’s introducing a supplement that will help you get to a healthy weight or finding a way to boost your mood, there are plenty of ways to raise your overall wellness that won’t add stress or anxiety to your already busy life.

Think of your body as a puzzle. With so many pieces that have to fit together, how will you connect them in a way that makes sense for you? For instance, individuals who are living with diabetes can often find relief from their symptoms by controlling their diet and maintaining a healthy weight, which can, in turn, help boost mood, improve sleep quality, and relieve symptoms of depression and anxiety. By taking action in one section of your life, you’ll actually create a series of positive changes in other areas as well.

Consider these tips when you’re looking to make some healthy changes in your life:

Check your air filters

The air inside your home can be a hub for pollutants including pollen, dust, dander, smoke, and mold. Exposure to pollutants can cause fatigue, irritate the eyes and nose, and aggravate asthma. Even if you don’t experience any symptoms, it’s important to clean the air to reduce the risk of health problems. Better air quality is possible when you change your air filters regularly. Consider replacing your old filters with MERV 11 ones, which get rid of 95 percent of harmful airborne particles. Also, try to match the filter brand to the manufacturer of your unit (if you own a Lennox unit, for instance, purchase Lennox filters).

Try a Supplement

With so many supplements on the market, it can be hard to know which ones are legitimate and which ones will leave you feeling frustrated. The key to finding the right help — especially when it comes to losing weight — is to read reviews and narrow down your options by how well they work for men or women specifically. Some have a thermogenic effect, which helps to burn fat more quickly than if you were doing it all alone, but it’s important to combine the supplement with a healthy diet and exercise routine.

If you’re looking for a supplement to help you relax and lower your stress and anxiety, many people have found success with CBD oil. The best part about CBD oil is that it helps to give your body some much-needed cannabinoid without the “high” associated with marijuana. Again, like weight-loss supplements, the right brand can often prove difficult, which is why it’s helpful to use guides that highlight the many products currently on the market, which range from gummies and edibles to tinctures.

Declutter

Many people don’t realize just how much the clutter in their home can affect them. In fact, having lots of belongings around you all the time can be detrimental to your mental health and can leave you feeling anxious or even depressed. Remember that spring cleaning doesn’t just have to come once a year; if your home is overflowing with stuff, take a weekend to go through things and pare them down. If it hasn’t been used or worn in six months or more and isn’t a strictly seasonal item, it may be time to get rid of it.

Rest Your Aching Feet… and Your Back

Depending on what type of job you have, you may be on your feet all day, only to come home to face making dinner, helping the kids with their nightly routine, and taking care of all the chores you didn’t get to finish over the weekend. You may not even realize how much your feet hurt until you finally sit down, and since your feet and legs can have an impact on your spine, your back is probably taking daily hits, too. Pamper yourself a bit with a pedicure and leg massage, or invest in a good foot bath that will give your aching tootsies a rest after a long day.

Listen to Your Gut

Your gut health is important for several reasons; not only does it contribute to your metabolism and overall physical wellness, but it can also have an effect on your mental health. Because certain essential bacteria live and thrive in your gut, you’ll want to keep them as healthy as possible by eating the right foods. Anything with live cultures, such as certain types of yogurt, or foods that are fermented, such as sauerkraut, will work wonders for your gut.

Finding healthy strategies for yourself can take some time, so don’t be afraid to try a few new things until you find one that really sticks. Talk to your doctor before making any major changes, especially if you have an existing health condition, and be patient as you go through the process. Chances are, you’ll be feeling great in no time!
